What Workflow Discovery Helps Define

No single sample preparation or evaluation approach is optimal for every matrix, target, test objective, or analytical method.

Workflow Discovery helps organize the information needed to understand the starting conditions and define an appropriate path toward the desired technical outcome.

Discovery may help define:

Where the target begins and where the Target-Bearing Fraction™ may reside

Sample volume, air volume, surface area, or test scale that should be represented

What the customer ultimately needs the result to demonstrate or support

Throughput, timing, laboratory, or field-use constraints

Existing collection, preparation, conditioning, clarification, concentration, or recovery steps

Matrix, environmental, formulation, or sample characteristics that may affect the workflow

Target or target class

Expected target level or abundance where relevant

Target characteristics that need to be preserved

Potential target losses or useful secondary fractions

Desired recovery or concentration objective

Downstream analytical method

The objective is to understand what needs to be preserved, what may need to be managed, and what the resulting sample or workflow needs to do.

Recommend an appropriate starting workflow or product configuration

Identify sample or workflow variables that deserve additional consideration

Suggest parameters or conditions to evaluate during method development

Prepare for a more productive technical discussion, demonstration, or application evaluation

Identify targeted follow-up questions where additional information would be useful

For established applications, the path may be relatively straightforward. For new or highly application-specific workflows, Workflow Discovery can help identify what should be evaluated experimentally rather than assuming that a fixed protocol already exists.

Not Sure Which Sample Path to Use?

Title

For sample-preparation Workflow Discovery, choose the pathway based on where the target begins:

Air — the target is initially being collected from air or an aerosol.

Surface — the target is initially associated with a surface, material, swab, wipe, sponge, or other surface-sampling device.

Fluid — the starting sample is already a liquid or fluid matrix.

Some workflows naturally cross these boundaries. An airborne target may be collected onto a filter and later recovered into liquid. A surface target may move from a wipe into an extraction fluid.

In those cases, choose the pathway that describes the initial sampling or collection environment and describe the subsequent workflow during Discovery.
