FluidPrep™ CPT - Irradiated

Single-Use, Irradiated Concentrating Pipette Tips (CPTs) are available in a variety of formats. Selecting the ideal CPT for use with the FluidPrep™ Concentrating Pipette System is crucial to achieving optimal performance - both in terms of speed and concentration factor of your target.

Selecting the Right CPT - Factors to consider

1 - Pore Size based on Nature and Size of Target Particle

CPTs are available in four pore sizes – Ultra, 0.05 µm, 0.2 µm, and 0.45 µm to accommodate the wide range of target particle types and sizes.

*Volume and flow rates will vary by matrix and selected menu settings

2 - Surface Area by Sample Matrix and Sample Volume

The complexity of your sample and overall volume to be processed will influence the speed and overall volume that can be processed effectively. Two options are available.

  • Standard CPTs Membrane surface area is 98 cm² nominal. Recommended for sample volumes over 200 mL and/or more complex or turbid matrices.
  • Mini 25 CPTs  - The membrane surface area is 25 cm² nominal and capable of smaller elution volumes with optimized menu settings. Recommended for sample volumes 200 mL or less and of low complexity/turbidity. Short-walled sample containers and the CP Sample Carousel are required for use.

As a general Rule of Thumb, we recommend using the smallest tip that provides the desired concentration factor for your application.

3 - Packaging Format by Target Application

All products are produced aseptically in a cleanroom environment. Understanding your downstream application will help identify which package format is best suited.

  • Non-irradiated CPTs -Bulk packaged and suitable for most applications due to the inherent low background.  Recommended if target organisms are non-ubiquitous or using selective assays.
  • Irradiated CPTs  - Individually wrapped and irradiated to provide added protection against bioburden. Best for culture-based downstream applications.

Tips are designed for use with the CP Select (CP Select™ sold separately)

We recommend use with the CP sample carousel item #HC08042.

FluidPrep™ 1 µm Upstream Clarification Filter/Filter Bag

Fine upstream clarification for difficult, high-particulate liquid samples

The FluidPrep™ 1 µm Upstream Clarification Filter is a single-use fine prefiltration tool for reducing persistent suspended particulates before concentration. Use it when cloudy, clay-like, wastewater-impacted, environmental, or other difficult liquid samples contain fine solids that may interfere with CP Select™ or EasyElute™ workflows.

Because 1 µm filtration may retain cells, protozoa, fungi, organism fragments, biofilm-associated material, particle-associated eDNA/eRNA, or solids-associated targets, users should evaluate target recovery before routine use.

Some complex liquid samples contain fine suspended particles that remain after settling or coarse screening. These particles can contribute to slow flow, premature filter loading, or inconsistent concentration performance.

The FluidPrep™ 1 µm Upstream Clarification Filter supports the Clarify step of the InnovaPrep® 4C Workflow — Characterize → Condition → Clarify → Concentrate — by reducing fine particulate burden before concentration when a less aggressive approach is not sufficient.

Best used when samples contain:

  • Persistent fine suspended solids
  • Cloudy or clay-like turbidity
  • Fine mineral or sediment load
  • Wastewater-impacted water with difficult fine particulates
  • Environmental water, stormwater, canal water, lagoon water, or receiving water with persistent haze
  • Large-volume samples that remain difficult after coarse debris removal
  • Samples where direct CP Select™ or EasyElute™ concentration is limited by fine particulate burden

For gross debris, use coarse screening (e.g. 100 µm Mesh Upstream Clarification Filter). For CP Select™ workflows where fouling occurs during concentration, consider CPT-Attached Matrix Prefilters.

FluidPrep™ 100 µm Mesh Upstream Clarification Filter | Tie-on Filter Bag

Coarse upstream debris management for FluidPrep™ concentration workflows

The FluidPrep™ 100 µm Mesh Upstream Clarification Filter is a simple, single-use prefiltration tool for reducing gross debris before concentration. It helps make large-volume, debris-containing, or wastewater-impacted liquid samples more processable before CP Select™ or EasyElute™ workflows.

Use it when fibers, vegetation, grit, algae, large particulates, produce debris, or other coarse material may interfere with downstream concentration.

Main product description

Complex liquid samples often contain large debris that can slow processing, clog downstream components, or make concentration less reliable. The FluidPrep™ 100 µm Mesh Upstream Clarification Filter provides a practical first clarification step before FluidPrep™ concentration workflows.

As part of the InnovaPrep® 4C Workflow

 Characterize → Condition → Clarify → Concentrate

The 100 µm Mesh Upstream Clarification Filter supports the Clarify step by removing coarse debris only when needed.

The goal is not maximum solids removal. The goal is target-aware matrix management: reduce gross debris and improve processability while preserving the biological fraction needed for downstream analysis.

Best used for

  • Wastewater and wastewater-impacted waters with visible debris
  • Environmental water, stormwater, canal water, and surface water samples
  • Produce rinse or wash water with pulp, fibers, soil, or plant material
  • Aquaculture, pond, lagoon, or recirculating water samples
  • Large-volume water samples containing grit, algae, vegetation, or sediment
  • Workflows where coarse debris should be removed before CP Select™ or EasyElute™ concentration

Common applications

Wastewater surveillance
Helps manage gross debris before concentration of wastewater or wastewater-impacted samples.

Environmental water monitoring
Useful for surface water, stormwater, canal water, lagoon water, and other samples containing large debris or algae.

Produce rinse and wash water
Supports removal of coarse plant material, fibers, soil clumps, or debris before concentration.

Large-volume concentration workflows
Supports processability when large-volume samples contain visible particulates that may interfere with downstream concentration.

CP Select™ CPT-Attached Matrix Prefilters

Clarify and Concentrate in a Single Step

CPT™-Attached Matrix Prefilters attach directly to compatible CP Select™ Concentration Tips, enabling clarification and concentration to occur simultaneously during sample processing.

By reducing larger particles, debris, aggregates, and matrix-associated material before they reach the hollow fiber concentration membrane, matrix prefilters can improve flow performance, reduce premature tip fouling, and expand the range of samples that can be processed using CP Select™ workflows.

Available pore sizes include 1 µm, 8 µm, 25 µm, and 75 µm.

Why Use a CPT-Attached Matrix Prefilter?

  • Clarify and concentrate in a single processing step
  • Reduce larger particles and debris before concentration
  • Improve flow performance in challenging matrices
  • Reduce premature Concentration Tip fouling
  • Extend processing capability for complex samples
  • Eliminate separate clarification steps for many workflows

Prefilter

Typical Uses

1 µm

Fine clarification of highly turbid samples, wastewater, environmental samples, and challenging biological matrices

8 µm

Removal of large cells, aggregates, and debris while allowing smaller microorganisms and particles to pass

25 µm

Reduction of larger suspended solids, food particles, sediment, and process-related debris

75 µm

Coarse clarification of samples containing visible debris, fibers, plant material, insects, hair, or large particulates

Important Note

CPT-Attached Matrix Prefilters are designed to manage matrix-associated material, not capture the target of interest. The downstream Concentration Tip performs the primary concentration step. Selection of the appropriate prefilter should consider both the sample matrix and the intended target population.

FluidPrep™ Concentration Tips (CPTs)

Single-Use Hollow-Fiber Concentration Devices for the CP Select™ System

FluidPrep™ Concentration Tips (CPTs) are single-use hollow-fiber concentration devices designed exclusively for use with the CP Select™ System. CPTs concentrate target particles from liquid samples by retaining them within a hollow-fiber membrane while allowing filtered liquid to pass through as permeate. Captured material may then be rapidly recovered into a small-volume eluate using InnovaPrep's patented Wet Foam Elution™ technology.

Multiple pore sizes, formats, and packaging options are available to support a wide range of sample types, targets, and analytical workflows. See Concentration Tip (CPT) Selection Guide

Standard vs Mini

Standard CPTs are generally selected for larger sample volumes and routine concentration workflows.

Mini CPTs are optimized for smaller sample volumes of low complexity samples, such as AirPrep eluates.

Irradiated vs Non-Irradiated

All CPTs are manufactured under controlled cleanroom conditions and provide equivalent concentration performance.

Irradiated CPTs undergo an additional irradiation step to further reduce consumable-associated bioburden. They are commonly selected for culture-based workflows, low-biomass samples, environmental monitoring in controlled manufacturing environments, and other applications where background biological material may influence results.

For many environmental sampling and targeted molecular workflows, non-irradiated CPTs are routinely used because the native sample background or assay specificity greatly exceeds any potential contribution from. the consumable itself.
