Carbonated Beverage Concentration Protocol Using CP Select™ and BeFlat™

Carbonated beverage samples can release dissolved gas, generate foam, and create unstable flow behavior during concentration. This protocol describes a practical workflow for preparing and concentrating carbonated beverage samples using the BeFlat™ Degassing Jar and the FluidPrep™ CP Select™ System.

The controlled protocol document provides step-by-step instructions for sample preparation, degassing, concentration, recovery, and downstream sample handling.

When to Use This Protocol

Use this protocol as a starting point for carbonated beverage samples where carbonation, foam generation, or gas release may interfere with stable concentration.

Example sample types may include:

  • Beer
  • Wine or sparkling wine
  • Hard seltzer
  • Carbonated ready-to-drink beverages
  • Carbonated water or flavored sparkling beverages
  • Other low-particulate carbonated liquid samples

For hazy, pulp-containing, protein-rich, or highly particulate beverages, additional conditioning or clarification may be required.

Workflow Overview

BeFlat™ is used as a conditioning step to reduce carbonation-related interference before CP Select™ concentration. The prepared sample is then concentrated using the selected Concentration Tip (CPT), elution fluid, and downstream analytical workflow.

Carbonation
Degassing helps reduce foam, bubbles, and false flow behavior during concentration.
Matrix Appearance
Clear beverages may process directly after degassing. Hazy or particulate samples may require additional conditioning or clarification.
Concentration Tip Selection
CPT selection depends on target size, sample volume, matrix characteristics, and downstream method.
Downstream Analysis
Recovered eluate may be used with appropriate microbiological, molecular, culture-based, or other analytical workflows.
