AIR TO LIQUID CONCENTRATION
The InnovaPrep liquid-to-liquid concentrator is easily adapted for recovery of captured particles from a wide range of flat and hollow fiber filters. Elution of particles, including Bacillus globigii,(Bg) from flat depth filters and hydrophobic hollow fiber filters has been shown to be rapid and highly efficient. Recent testing performed for the Leonard Wood Institute and the Army Research Laboratory demonstrated a total average efficiency for capture, elution, and subsequent liquid-to-liquid concentration of Bg from a hydrophobic hollow fiber filter of 76%. During the same test series, an average efficiency of 93% was demonstrated for capture and elution of Bg from flat depth filters.
InnovaPrep elution of flat depth filters has potential application as a rapid sample elution method for filters used by the military in Dry Filter Units and by the Homeland Security Department in the BioWatch program. We have ongoing research to develop flat membrane filter capture and elution methods for concentration of bacteria from aqueous samples including homogenized ground beef, hotdogs, and feces. Methods developed through this research have potential application as a low-cost, rapid method for low-level detection of pathogens in food and for medical and veterinary diagnostics.
