BIOTERRORISM DEFENSE

The InnovaPrep liquid-to-liquid concentrator was originally developed for use in automated detection systems developed for bioterrorism defense applications. Aerosol-to-liquid collectors used in these systems typically capture particles into a liquid volume in the range of 2 to 15 milliliters while the detectors are only capable of analyzing volumes in the range of 5 to 200 microliters. This mismatch between the collector volume and the detector volume is a momentous weakness for these systems; as at worst only 0.03% of the available sample is analyzed and at best only 10% of the available sample is analyzed. By serving as a macro-to-micro interface between the collector and the detector the InnovaPrep can improve system detection limit by 10 to 3,000 times.

Rapid processing, robust operation, virus and toxin capability, and limited complexity are some of the requirements of liquid-to-liquid concentrators for these applications. InnovaPrep is the only available concentrator that meets these requirements.

In addition to use in integrated detection systems, the InnovaPrep liquid-to-liquid concentrator along with the air-to-liquid, surface-to-liquid, and bulk material systems has application to other critical components of Bioterrorism defense. Specific applications included use by first responders, sample preparation of dry filter units, detection of biological agents in drinking water, and determination of the level of cleanliness following decontamination.
